The Pilion Centre - Something deeper than a sun tan.

About the centre: - An Ordinary Paradise

We offer experiential workshops in a space where we build community through the practice of contributing to others. This is all done in simple manner in a beautiful natural setting producing what we call 'An Ordinary Paradise'.

Experiential workshops:
We will be offering Dance, Drama, Comedy, Voice work, Massage, Thai Chi, Yoga, Meditation, Non-Violent Communication, Painting, Photography, Guided Walks and other Complimentary Therapeutic approaches. Awareness is the key to growth!

Our workshop focus is on deepening our awareness of the nature of being. Focussing on the present moment, our bodies, the nature around us, other people and the relationship between them. Many approaches can contribute towards direct experience of our inner and outer life.

Community
Our basic belief is in the value of human beings being together and contributing to each other. Contributing is good for you (medical fact!). Working, living, learning and enjoying ourselves together, naturally builds community. This sounds like a grand claim but can be achieved very simply even while doing the washing up.

To enhance and support this process , there are some simple methods that we use:

1) Awareness circle – most mornings we meet in a circle to connect through games and/or sharing, news, job swaps, and maybe a short guided meditation. We also have connect before any shared task which 'tunes' us into each other. In this way we can help to recover our joy in the ordinary.

2) Skill Sharing - The people staying at the centre often bring with them diverse interpersonal practical and artistic skills which we encourage them to share. This makes our environment rich in spirit.

3) Contribution - During the day everyone at the centre has a chance to contribute to the running of the centre. Everyday you can sign up for various activities like washing up, food prep, cleaning and so on.  These activities are part of our community and can provide remarkable personal insights. We believe work is love-in-action and we ask you to practice at least 4 hours love-in-action a week.

5) The Rhythms of the Centre
- provide a balance between time for ourselves and time for others by using regular daily patterns for meetings, tasks, workshops and free time.

Our Daily Rhythm

Our daily rhythm offers an early bird exercise of Meditation, Yoga or Tai-Chi. We then have breakfast which is a self served and mostly taken under our vine covered dining area.

Every Day we have an Awareness circle for everyone at the centre. Practicing sharing, clear listening and tuning in to each ourselves & each other creates an excellent base for the day and for our sense of community.

Workshops usually start at 10:00am and go through to lunch time which is prepared and enjoyed  together or you can take a lunch box to enjoy wherever you would like.

After lunch is your time. Many spend this at one of the beautiful local quartz rich beaches. You can walk there or we can usually provide a lift. There much beautiful scenery to explore or you can simply relax and do your own thing. We have a wide variety of scenic marked walks available and almost always someone on hand to show you the way.

We come back together around 7pm for our evening meal and after clear up enjoy a variety of activities from music, singing, discussions to star-lit wanderings. Once a week we have a bonfire under the stars, which is a lovely way to relax. We also have an optional trip out to a Taverna, traditionally on a Tuesday, (this is not included in the cost of your stay).

Below is a timetable of a typical day at the centre.

Connection with Nature.

Our centre stands on a wooded mountain side falling steeply to a rocky coast line with unspoilt beaches and warm clear seas. Sometimes workshops take place on the beach or mountain side.

The Pilion Mountain is a constant calming presence visible from the front terrace and balconies. Natural spring water flows down the mountain gullies and out of the taps.

Ferns and cyclamen grow in the forest shade. It is a place where is it easy to believe in mythical creatures. In spring and Autumn fruits nuts and berries are abundant. Our dining area is draped in a richly fruiting purple vine.

There are many shaded walks threading the mountains and forests. We have marked the track from the centre to our nearest beach and can guide visitors to walks of various grades of difficulty. It is worth noting that this is one of the few areas of Greece that has generated a small scale walker's map due to the desirable nature of the terrain.

We are keen to attract sculptors, painters, photographers and other artists to celebrate the beauty of this remarkable place.
